Emergency Hormonal Contraception
The morning after pill
Emergency hormonal contraception (the morning after pill) can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, or if the contraception you have used has failed – for example, a condom has split, or you have missed a pill.
How soon do I need to take the pill?
There are two emergency contraceptive pills available which can be supplied to best suit your needs:
- Levonelle – within 3 days
- ellaOne – within 5 days
The sooner you take an emergency contraceptive pill, the more effective it will be.
Where can I get the morning after pill?
Visit the pharmacy and ask to speak with our pharmacist. You will be supplied with the most appropriate pill following a short discussion in the privacy of our consultation room.
The pharmacist will also be able to provide advice about how to get your usual contraception back on track.
